Song of the Day (Classic Edition)

"Smile" - Nat King Cole (Nat King Cole Story, 1961)
This is one of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time favorit artists. I found out over Christmas that he and my grandfather actually knew eachother pretty well. Nat King Cole is from Chicago (by way of Montgomery, Ala) : )

Song of the Day: Hip-Hop Gospel Addition

"Gimme Dat" - The Ambassador [The Chop Chop: From Milk to Meat; 2008]

I'm more of a contemporary christian music [shouts to Jars of Clay] person pero, I kinda like this. I've never been a real fan of Hip-Hop Gospel save TBone, THAT dude used to rock my socks back in the day BUT . . . over the summer I helped w/ a concert and Da Truth performed for the kids. Even though they were all geeked to see him [he's EXTRA dope too], a lot of them recommended this young man for me to check out. So I didn't, but TODAY, I was watching T.V. and his vid came on and I dug it. He reminds me of Nas w/ that I used to attitude but I like his approach better lol : P

a change has come [excuse my grammar, I know it's all off lol]

"Chasing Cars" - Snow Patrol [Eyes Open 2006]
If I'm not mistaken, this song is on The Garden State soundtrack. It may just be one of my all time faves. Kinda romantic, kinda inspirational, but all the way dope. The Garden State is a pretty good movie too. I still think somebody in my dorm freshie year stole it from me! >:-O

"Come Away With Me" - Norah Jones [Come Away With Me, 2002]

Norah Jones' voice, to me, has the timbre of a bass and the spirit of a uhmmmm dove, or something. Her music even on an up tempo is so soothing and so pure. She won a bunch of Grammys for this album and the one that came after and she's really young. I was studying for mid terms and my mom had the album so I popped it in and vegged out for few minutes to clear my mind and relax the biggest muscle of my body, my brain. Because I'm a genuis. [lol]

"ya'll know what this is" - J Dupri [what's his name again? I think that's right]

"Hip Hop Quotables" & "P-Poppin'" - Ludacris [Chicken-N-Beer, 2003]

Ludacris is 33, which really isn't that old considering I've dated guys older than that. He was born in Champaign, Illinois, where no one else is born but everyone goes for college and parties then moved to Atlanta for college and stuf [according to Wikipedia]. My sister and I were just riding around on our way to school today rockin' out to these songs so I decided they were good choices and S.O.D. material. Enjoy : )

foooo!

It's pronounced Ohn-dra-sick, John Ondrasik and he's dope. That's really all that matters.

John Lennon is the member of The Beatles that was effing with Yoko Ono. This was their first album together. I'm gonna check out the whole thing when I get a chance. Double Fantasy was released on the THEN newly formed Geffen Records just three weeks before his murder. He won a Grammy for this one in '81 for Album of The Year. DOPE.

SONG O' THE DAY

"Semi Precious Weapons" & "Magnetic Baby" - Semi Precious Weapons [We Love You]

Semi Precious Weapons got started in good ol' NYC, that's no surprise, but they're AWESOMENESS is. As you can see I love ALL music and I haven't come across a recent band that can rock out so well. Justin Tranter on the vocals, Dan Crean on the drums [ i love drummers], and Cole Whittle on bass they bring the heat. With a mission statement like "bring fun, glamour, sex, filth and the party back to music. And we take that very seriously. We miss rent, collect cans, and sleep on couches all over the world just to bring you roughNroll-glamour-fun-times." I see a bright future ahead for this glam garage band. If you're wondering how that would sound imagine a heap of garbage with diamonds and rubys sprinkled all over.

P.S. I found out about them cuz I love Raquel Reed's [the girl sitting in front of the drum set] hair. The End.

rock oooown!

Song(s) of the Day

"What's Hardcore?" - K'naan [The Dusty Foot Philosopher]

Word to Kevin for the recommendation. I peeped SHORTY during the 2008 BET Hip-Hop Awards during the lil cypher sessions, loved the flow. He's from Mogadisho, Somalia and on a mission. His raw details about his experiences are something you can appreciate, someone that can use their hurt to help end it for others so they don't have to experience it, that's a good look.

this is Kevin's website

The history behind: Song(s) of the Day

Song of the Day started because I didn't have a job this summer but for some STRANGE reason I would wake up MAD early to watch Vh1's music vids they played in the morning hoping to discover some new DOPE artist. I love music SO much I would recommend stuf to my friends or sister and do hella research on the artist and one day I'm like aaawww SHIIIIT self, I can just start sending it to EVERYBODY and have fun with it. So here I'm IS, 4 or 5 months in and I LOVE it. It's not an everyday thing, just when I hear something dope while I'm out, vibing to some music from my own collection or maybe even discover artists I hadn't known about before/that were recommended to me by homies. I brought it on over to the innAnet since my homeboy refused to be in my group because he knew he wouldn't seek it out. That opinion made me realize I don't want to send my music out in VAIN! so I'm gonna post links to the artists I recommend [and once I figure it out, actually post the music ON the site] so they have quick access to what's ill, or not because we all have our own preference. Next step? I'm thinking MIXTAPE [looks to the sky].

"Valediction" and "Daykeeper" by The Foreign Exchange [Leave It All Behind]

Yes, that IS Phonte from Little Brother [Raleigh, N.C.]. He's joined forces with Holland's Nicolay [he's a producer] to make The Foreign Exchange. If you ask me, at this rate they'll be swimming in USD and Euros. COME TO CHICAGO GUYS!!
